FREZNO IS WACK.

Tony Stamolis' tour de armpit of California Fresno force is righteous-mad-style white trash migrant worker livin' blues baby… a photographic onslaught of ugly dirty beauty… a freakin’ camera full of fugly-poppin’ pill-mushroom-love. This book is an ode to a brand of America, an ode to a bakin' blazin' hot dusty suburb city… an ode to the lives that just keep livin’, the lives that just keep givin’-that keep on dyin’ and keep on wiggin’… the one’s that fry like the sun, and pop like a bottlerocket – blazing fast and then burned out dead in the night-turned to ashes. This is the America that will tell you to kiss their ass and then share a beer with you while your car is overheating- light a smoke sucka you have no place to go. Tattoo kaleidescope skin language – sweat symphony of backpain – strip mall heat- hellacious blues baby… this piece of art is the real deal… Tony Stamolis brings it and brings it hard. FREZNO is a human stew of love and hate – this work does Fresno right… does Fresno justice – does Fresno proud.

This is the TONY WAY or the highway peeps.

Tell all those other faker-hipster-fad-clicker-photographer-wannabees... empty-style-contemporary-copycat-photographic-trend-buckets to hit the road jack… hit the road right back to NYC.

This FREZNO baby is the Central-Valley-Armpit of California-USA-Madness. The sloppy seconds of the American Dream.... suburbia stuffed into a trunk. Published in November 2008 by Process Media Inc, this is a pictorial pleasure... destined to be a classic.

No one does Fresno like Tony does Frezno.

Regards,

Doug Rickard

BILL OWENS: "Suburbia" (2000)
"Owens explains that, "the photographs for Suburbia weren't done by accident. I put together a shooting script of events that I wanted to photograph... Christmas, Thanksgiving, Fourth of July, Birthdays, et cetera. I got a small grant, and began taking photographs every Saturday for a year, so basically Suburbia was shot in 52 days..."

"The 1970’s photographs of Anthony Hernandez possess something stupendous, something despairing and faint... lusciously strange… something that is fleeting, or maybe some would say… “hard to pin down”. Of course the aesthetic is godsmackingly gorgeous in its bleak ugliness…"
